Gilles Cusson SJ, Spiritual Exercises Made in Everyday Life
In this book, Gilles Cusson presents a method for giving the full Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius of Loyola to a person who cannot make the classic ‘thirty day retreat.’ He draws on the principles for such an ‘open retreat’ set down by St Ignatius and on a theology firmly grounded in God’s plan of salvation for us as presented in the Scriptures.
In a way helpful to directors and retreatants alike, the author presents the structure and procedures of these open retreats. In the first part of his book, he surveys the history of retreats in daily life and takes up techniques useful in directing or making an open retreat. In the second part, on the evolution of the retreatant’s experience, he presents the Exercises in the light of biblical theology. In the third part, he suggests means for prolonging the retreat experience into the future.
