James S. Torrens SJ, and Xiaoxin Wu Ed.D., Edward J. Malatesta SJ: A Friend of China

Father Edward J. Malatesta SJ (1932 1998) had a dream about spreading the Christian faith in China. In order to capture, at least in part, the life of this Jesuit priest and scholar, who devoted the latter half of his life to China and the Chinese people, five of his close associates contributed papers to this book, with the aim of introducing (or reintroducing) Fr Malatesta as a scholar and a friend of the Chinese people in the particular cultural and international context of the last two decades of the twentieth century. More than thirty scholars, friends, and associates of Father Malatesta granted their permission to be interviewed for these papers; the result is a striking picture of a contemporary Jesuit priest, scholar, and true "friend of China."
