This is a Special Order book which has to be individually ordered from the Institute of Jesuit Sources in St Louis, USA. It may take up to a month to arrive. If you are shopping from the US it may be quicker and cheaper to order directly from the IJS (https://www.jesuitsources.com/)

Jean Yves Calvez SJ, Faith and Justice

‘Action on behalf of justice and participation in the transformation of the world fully appear to us as a constitutive dimension of the preaching of the Gospel.’ So stated the international synod of bishops held in Rome in 1971. But what is the justice for which the Church engages herself in her evangelizing mission? And what is the role of the preacher of the Gospel in acting upon social structures and in the realm of politics?

All of these questions continue to be current in the Church, as the differences of opinion on the ‘theology of liberation’ bear witness. In presenting a detailed study of a central document in the recent history of the Jesuits (General Congregation 32's The Service of Faith and the Promotion of Justice), this book helps to respond to all those questions. This book tells how that Jesuit document came to be, what it says, and where it fits in the context of the social dimension of evangelization.

Jean Yves Calvez SJ, was a member of General Congregation 32. Additionally, for twelve years he was one of the four general assistants to Father Pedro Arrupe, the superior general of the Jesuits. He knows well the milieu out of which the contemporary discussion on faith and justice emerges and in which it is carried on.
