This is a Special Order book which has to be individually ordered from the Institute of Jesuit Sources in St Louis, USA. It may take up to a month to arrive. If you are shopping from the US it may be quicker and cheaper to order directly from the IJS (http://www.jesuitsources.com/)

Martin R. Tripole SJ, Faith Beyond Justice

In 1975, the thirty second general congregation of the Society of Jesus passed a decree entitled Jesuits Today, which stated (among other things) that, in the future, ministries were to be undertaken or not undertaken by Jesuits to the degree that those ministries fostered ‘the service of faith and the promotion of justice’. Decree Four (as the document came to be known) met with lively discussion when it appeared, and it continues to do so today. In Faith Beyond Justice, Father Martin Tripole examines the background of the decree, explores the meaning of ‘justice’ as it is used in the document, and concludes that the criteria for ministries that the decree proposes, while noble and challenging, are nevertheless too narrow to be successful in accomplishing the task the general congregation set for them. He then proposes a criterion for ministries which, while not negating the ‘faith and justice’ motif, yet goes beyond it and makes provision for ministries that may not have a direct justice orientation.

The book contains a fine bibliography in its final pages; those interested in this topic will find considerable help in the books Fr Tripole suggests.
