In this accessible and immensely readable study, Nicholas King SJ calls Mark’s Gospel ‘the strangest gospel’, arguing that for many people the Gospel has become so familiar that they no longer notice its oddity and may therefore miss what it is saying about the meteoric new reality that is Jesus. He helps readers to look at the truths of the Gospel with fresh eyes, and addresses what he suggests are its two fundamental questions: ‘Who is Jesus?’ and ‘If Jesus was so, what must his disciples be like?’

Each chapter is followed by questions for reflection which are especially useful for group study and are intended to sharpen readers’ responses to the issues discussed. There are also suggestions for further reading and a comprehensive index of biblical references.
