Blaise Arminjon SJ, Remembering Your Deeds: The Psalms and the Spiritual Exercises

In this work the late Blaise Arminjon SJ, provides a deeply contemplative reading of select psalms arranged to accompany the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius. Each of the ten chapters is devoted to a major theme in the Exercises reflected in 24 individual psalms. The author, who was a spiritual guide of singular insight and depth, brought to this work a thorough and prayerful knowledge of both the Old and the New Testaments along with his familiarity with the Exercises. He was able to show that those who composed the psalms were remarkably sensitive and in close touch with our own hopes and anxieties, sharing also our deepest longings and aspirations. While not envisioned as a work of scholarship, the book is clearly a spiritual classic. Its tone is calm and serene, its impact positive and reassuring. It will be helpful to anyone seeking a contemplative prayer that is both biblically based and oriented toward personal growth.
